About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit FAQ

I fly Aus to HK to Shanghai and back to Aus, all direct flights so there shouldn't be an issue.

Is it just as simple as me telling the airport counter staff on check in when I leave Ausor is there anything else I need to do in advance, also is there a cost for this? Thx

Dylan, on your way from HK to Shanghai, you should inform the airline that you intend to use the 72-hour free transit policy before the flight arrives. Except this, you don't need to do anything in advance. The free transit service does not charge any fee.
