Hi Maxwell! If your parents just stay in China for a short time, you can apply the tourist L type for them. If they want to stay longer, they can apply for the Q type.

The common application documents used are their passports, passport copies, application forms, and recent photos.

The supporting documents for appling the Q type include a photocopy of your wife's ID card, the original and photocopy of your birth certificate and marriage certificate, and an invitation letter from your wife.

The supporting documents for applying the L type is an invitation letter from your wife.

You can provide a photoocpy of her ID card, but the marriage book needs to be in the original copy. If you register your marriage in China, I think both of you get a marriage certificate, so you are supposed to have one.
