About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

What about airline employees flying standby? Are they eligible?

I am flying standby from BLR to shanghai, then on to Los Angeles on a standby pass. If I stay 24 hours then leave will I be eligible?

Linda, the onward ticket with confirmed date and seat is required when applying for the free transit service. So I think it's risky if you do not apply for an entry permit in advance.
