About:Visa Policy of China

I hold a British Passport. I overstayed my visa for 4 days before coming to Hong Kong to reapply.

Because I overstayed, I was told that I must return to my home country to apply, otherwise the won't consider it. The problem is, I had only packed for a 2 night stay in HK. If I have a flight ticket to leave Shanghai back to the UK within 72 hours, will I be able to get a transit type even though i previously overstayed? (I received a warning at the airport when I left the country and have photocopies)

Lucy, considering that you overstayed before, there is a risk that you might be refused for making use of 72 hours free transit. I personally think you might try to find an agency in HK to help you acquire a transit type in advance.
