About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Hotel night for overnight layover: do I need the 72-hour visa?

Flying Manila - London UK via Guangzhou. Arrival at Guangzhou at 9.50pm. Overnight layover, departing to London UK at 9.30am the day after.
I would like to stay in a hotel nearby the hotel to get some rest. Do you know if I will need to apply for the 72-hour transit visa for this?
Many thanks for your answers.
Cheers,

Lionel, you need to apply for a temporary stay permit to leave the airport.
