About:Traditional Festivals in China

Can companies insist that employees work or do they always have the time off?

Sarah, you have to know that not all traditional holidays are legal holidays. Employers usually take a rest during legal holidays. Those who work on these holidays usually get paid much more than usual. However, they don't rest on Lantern Festival, Double Seventh Festival, Chongyang Festival, Laba Festival etc.

Yes, companies can insist that employees work. Usually, most of people can have spring festival, national day holiday, and labor day holiday off. Many people still have to work on these holidays without being paid more. Few companies pay more.
