Do I have to book my plane ticket before obtaining the visa?

Cause if my application got rejected I don't want to waste my money the tickets aren't refundable..

Baish, if you know someone who is in China, you can ask this person to send you an invitation letter so that you needn't submit the air tickets during the application. If you don't know anyone, you have to book tickets before applying for the L type. The round-trip tickets are needed for your application.
