About:Top 8 Reasons Why Your China Visa Gets Rejected

Re: 24h TWOV ||| Trip: Colombo to NZ via 2 layovers in China

Hi there,

I'm travelling from Sri Lanka to New Zealand early Jan next year with a couple of layovers in Kunming and Pudong (Shanghai).
Here's my scheduled times:
I arrive at KMG at 0720 and leave for PDG at 1840 (11h 20m) on the same day. I have another layover at Shanghai from 2140 to 0005 (2h 25m).
My question is, do I qualify for the 24h TWOV at Kunming, and if so, what exactly does it entail? i.e. can I leave the airport to have a look around or am I restricted to the airport premises?
Also, if I do qualify for the 24h visa-free transit, how do I go about acquiring it? i.e. do I just fill out the form handed out in-flight and present it at the immigration along with my ticket and passport for the special stamp, or do I have to notify anyone prior to boarding the flight at Colombo (CMB)?

This is actually for my return trip, the transit time for my NZ--> SL trip is pretty short.
Moreover, I am a NZ citizen but I'll be travelling with a friend who is a Sri Lankan citizen. From what I've gathered the 24h TWOV applies to most nationalities, but could you also confirm whether my Sri Lankan friend will also be eligible?

Sorry about the essay and thanks for your assistance!

Cheers,
Vi

Hi Vi!
1. You qualify for the 24h TWOV policy. If you want to leave the airport, you can apply for a temporary stay permit at the airport.
2. You can just fill out the form, and then show your flight tickets and passport for the special stamp.
3. The 24-hour direct transit policy applies to your Sri Lankan friend.
