Passport for Shanghai to Hong Kong train

Hi have asked before but lost post. Have booked tickets though on line agency for z99 from Shanghai to Hong Kong. They have told us that they do not need our passport to buy the tickets. Could anyone confirm if this is true. This is the overnight rail straight to Hong Kong not the high speed that you change in Guangzhou. Thank you.

The tickets from Shanghai to Hong Kong are not issued under real-names, there is no name nor passport number show on the ticket.

Thank you. Is this just for this one as everything I have read about booking tickets says foreigners need passport details.

Yes, this is just for this route. For other domestic routes, the information are still needed based on the real-name policy.
