About:Visa Policy of China

Can I get a tourist visa or extension after my Z type expires in China?

I am working near Shanghai and I will finish my contract the 30th of June. I wish to stay 14 days in Guilin and then Fly back to Spain. Is it possible to get a tourist type? In addition, I am coming back on the 6th of August and I want to come back with a tourist type. I will start working in a new place in Guilin in September the 1st. What is my best option? (my job did not provide with documents on time to do a working type from 1st July in Guilin and therefore I have to do it this way.

Hector, it's possible for you to change your current Z type into a 30 days L type. After you get it from the local entry and exit management bureau, you can go to Guilin. However, I am afraid that you can't apply for a new Z type even you find an employer there. So you can take a trip in Guilin as you planned. Meanwhile, you can try to find a job. If you are lucky to find an employer, then you can go back to your country to reapply for the Z type.

After you get the Z type, you can get back to Guilin and work there.

Thanks so much. The first part (30 days entry permit is ok now). But the second part is like this:

I already have an employer. They will contract me or from 1st July or 1st September, they don´t mind. The problem is that my flights cannot be changed and I need to catch them on the 14th of July. They tell me I have no time to do my Z type so I need to pass the summer with tourist ones.

They said on my way back from Spain, 6th of August, we can change my tourist type into a working one in Hong Kong. (its a university in Guilin by the way).

One more detail. My flights are from Hong Kong. So I guess that might make it easier for me?

Can I comeback on the 6th of August getting a tourist type, land in Hong Kong and then start my process there for Z?

Well, the key is that whether your employer helps you with your Z type application in HK. According to what I know, the authorities regulate that the applicants are required to provide HK resident status if they want to apply there. Otherwise, you might try some agencies and see if they can do it for you. I heard that it cost at least CNY 5000 to 6000 to change a L type to Z type in HK.
