By subway: Take the airport express train to Dongzhimen station, where you can transfer to line 2 to Xuanwumen Station. Then transfer to Line 4 (Daxing Line) to the South Railway Station. The fare is CNY30 in total, and the travel time is about 65 mins. In this way, you need to transfer twice.

Therefore, I'd recommend you take the airport shuttle bus line 10 to the south railway station directly, and the fare is CNY24 with duration about 60 mins.

Thanks Kate, much appreciated. will the airport shuttle bus be affected by traffic jams? and is it easy to find from the airport?

Well, the traffic jam doesn't influence the shuttle bus a lot. But it's still suggested to leave enough time on the transportation.
Upon landing, you can easily find the shuttle bus service counter and the pick-up station according to the English signs. :)

OK 100%, we will be landing at 17:20 on Saturday... so is the traffic quieter on a Saturday? and i believe the buses leave every half an hour?

Yes, you are right. The traffic jam won't be that severe on Sat. and the bus does leave at intervals of less than half an hour.
