About:China Student Visa

In and out on the X2 visa

"X2 holders shall stay in China within the duration period as indicated, and it is not necessary for them to apply for the temporary residence permit."

Does that mean I can't travel in and out during this period? I was thinking of making a short trip to Japan for a weekend.

Yes, X2 type is usually given just a single entry. In this way, the applicant can't get out. If they really want, they need to reapply X2 type if they want to get back. However, if you can acquire a double or mulitple entry X2 type, then you can exit to have a short trip in Japan.
