Hi Mary. As you hold the Irish passport, you can visit Hong Kong for up to 90 days without the entry permit. So your L type is enough for the travel plan. By the way, if your L type is only for one entry, then it cannot be used after you leave mainland for Hong Kong.

Thanks for this. However, I don't understand when you say with an L type. once I leave mainland I can't use it. Can I stay in Nanjing for 6 days then go to Hong Kong and back to Nanjing and then back top Portugal where I live on my L type? I am going to Nanjing for 14 days

Hi Mary,
What I think Maureen is trying to say is that if you L type states 'single entry' then you may not use the same one to return to Nanjing for the 14 days you planned to stay. You would require a new one.

However, if your L type states 'multiple entry' then you may use this same one to re-enter the mainland and travel to Nanjing.

Thanks. However am still confused. I hold an L single entry to visit Nanjing from Lisbon , Portugal and then to return to Lisbon. If I want to visit Hong Kong , as an Irish passport holder I do not need one. However, if I leave mainland to go to Hong Kong can I re enter?. Also can I leave mainland twice on a single entry. I think It is better if I do not go to Hong Kong.

Mary, a single entry L type can't allow you to enter mainland two times. It means that you need to apply another one in HK if you want to get back to mainland. Or you shouldn't leave mainland until you get back to your own country. Is it clear?
