Hello, I have a question to ask. I brought a machine from hong kong and it uses the Chinese plug style. the machine states that it is 220/110v and 50/60hz (I don't really understand how one item can have both volts and hz?) How would I adapt this to work on the UK's plugs. thanks.Michael.

Michael, 220/110V means that range for the safe voltage. This machine can work bewteen 110 and 220V. However, the volt in UK should be 240V, right? So you need to buy a transformer. The adaptor isn't required because the plugs in HK are the same as those used in UK.

I have no idea, some sites state 220v for the uk. I have looked on other sites that state the uk now uses 230v, while europe use 220v and this was to harmonise electrical equipment so that a european item could work in the uk as what they say theres a 10% deviation either way. So itll be safe, but again its confusing..

Officially all Europe is 230 V ac. In reality UK & Ireland are 240 V ac and everywhere else is 220 V ac.  But we all design equipment over a wide range about 200 - 250 V.  So if it says 220 that'll be OK in the UK.
