About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Do I qualify for 72 hour visa free transit?

Hi, I am flying from Australia to Beijing via Guangzhou on the same day. Will leave Beijing and China within the 72 hours by CRUISE.
Do I have to obtain an entry permit as I have been told that the free 72 hour free transit is only available for flight passengers.
Kind regards Brian
