About:Exit Regulations of China

5000USD plus 20000RMB is safe to exit with?

Can I leave China with 5,000USD plus 20,000 RMB? Or is it one or the other?
Also, could the 5,000 USD be represented in any foreign currency e.g. HKD?
My plan would be to take 38,750 HKD together with 20,000RMB - is this safe?

I'm afraid not. It is generally allowed to take at most 5,000USD or 20,000RMB to leave China. Holding other types of currency like HKD, the total value should equals to 5,000USD. You'd better deposit some of your currency in a bank card in case of any problem when clearing the customs.
