About:Directions for Use of Shanghai Public Transportation Card

What kind of smart card should I buy?

Hello! I will be in Shanghai for 3 days, but 1 day for conference. For the other 2 days, I would like to travel around by bus, subway. Therefore, I would like to ask following question:

1/ What kind of smart card should I need to buy for saving expense? Where to buy it (is it available at the airport?)? Can it used for Maglev?
2/ How much for that smart card for 1 person? (Could you share with me the estimate amount that I should deposit into the card for a trip around famous tourist site in 2 days? Just estimate amount, because I have never been there so far)
3/ Before arriving the airport, could I get the refund if there still have money left in my smart card? If yes, how to get the refund?
4/ What should I do if I want to return the card?

Considering your case, you will spend two days touring around, then you don’t need to buy the smart card. The subway network in that city is quite mature and convenient, so you can choose the metro as your travel method. You can buy the One Day Pass for your each day. The fare is CNY18, and you can have unlimited subway ride in 24 hours since your fist use. You don’t need to refund the pass, and you can keep it for memory. The pass can be purchased in most subway stations, you can easily get one.

The card cannot be used on the SMT, you need to buy another tickets for that. By the way, if you buy the round-trip way SMT train tickets, it will be cheaper.

By the way, there is also a special card for meteo and SMT - Maglev Single Trip/ Roung Trip + Metro One-day Pass. You can also consider buying it.
