About:Chinese Temporary Residence Permit

Do I need to exit mainland China to process the student visa?

I have a temporary residence permit and currently working here. I am planning to study and work at the same time after my permit expires.

Aaron, it's possible that you may not be required to apply outside because you already have resident permit here. However, it still depends on the lcoal entry and exit management bureau. You'd better visit the bureau at least 7 days in advance to ask how to change your Z into X. If they ask you to exit and apply, then you have no other option.
