Aaron, it's possible that you may not be required to apply outside because you already have resident permit here. However, it still depends on the lcoal entry and exit management bureau. You'd better visit the bureau at least 7 days in advance to ask how to change your Z into X. If they ask you to exit and apply, then you have no other option.
