About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Do I qualify for 72 hours transit or do I need to apply for a visa?

Hello, I hold a Vietnam passport and a Schengen short term residence status. I am on my trip Vietnam-Taipei-US-Taipei-Vietnam. Considering taking a short visit to Shanghai 24-48 hours then fly from Shanghai to Vietnam.

Can I apply for a VOA in case I am not qualified for 72 hour transit. Thanks for info.

Simon, you country is not among the 51 countries to which the 72h free transit policy is available, so you don't qualify for this policy. So you need to apply for an entry permit. I suggest you apply for it in advance because the VOA is only issued in emergent cases.
