About:China Student Visa

L type (tourism visa)

Hi I am a student that is going to China to study abroad in the summer. Is it possible that I use L type to enter China? The school told me to use the F type one. But after the study abroad program end I am planning to travel with my friends and go back to China again after the study abroad program will be finished in two weeks.

Karen, it's right that you can use the L type to enter China, but you are not allowed to study with the L type. So just apply for an F type one as what the school told you. After the study program, where will you go with friends? Outside China? If so, you need to apply for an L type in other countries for you to enter again for travel. If you return to China to continue study, then you should apply for an F type.

I am getting a L type. My L type is processing. Can't I tell the custom that I am going to travel after the study abroad program end so thats why I have a L type?

I will be studying for only a month then I will leave China to start my tour in Hong Kong and Japan. After I visit HK, I will reenter China to visit a friend.

Karen, in principle, if you want to study in China, you should apply for the F or X type. However, since you are now in the process of getting the L type, you can enter with it, but remember that you need to secretly study with the L type. You should not tell the custom that you are going to study in China because the L type is issued only to tourists.

Yes, it's illegal. if you worry aboud bad consequences, you can change the L type into X type or F type after you enter China so that you can study legally.
