About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Flight Osaka - Beijing - Toronto (72 hours). Question about the APPLICATION for visa exemption.

Hi, I have a Canadian passport. I have a Japanese Residence card.

I will fly from Osaka (Japan) to Beijing (China) on May 30th. Then, I will fly from Beijing (China) to Toronto (Canada) on June 2nd.

So, I will be doing a 72 hour stopover in Beijing. I think that I qualify for this 72 hour free transit. Is this correct?

More importantly, should I do something before my flight (on May 30th) to apply for the 72-hour free transit? Or should I just take my flight to Beijing (PEK) on May 30th and apply for the visa-exemption that day, throuth the airline? I'm worried that my application won't get approved and I'll be forced to spend 72 hours in the Beijing (PEK) airport. Does that ever happen? Thank you for any information you can give me!
Take care!

Angela, you just need to follow the leading signs to apply for 72 hours free transit after you arrive. You needn't inform the airline in advance. As long as you have connecting air tickets in hands, you will get 72 hours free transit.
