Should I book a return ticket for my mom who is coming to China on S2 visa?

Hi, I am very confused if I need to book a return ticket now it self to my mom who is coming on S2 type with a duration stay of 3 months. At the moment her date of return is unknown as we are planning to extend her s2 type for one more month when she gets there. Please help! Thank you
