About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Do I need to apply for visa or apply for the 72hr limit stay?

I'm a Canadian permanent resident and I have a flight to Manila but I have a stop over at Shanghai. I do not have plans to exit the airport.

Lenina, as you don't plan to exit the airport, I assume your stay is not beyond 24 hours. So I think you are eligible for the 24 hour free transit service. You can apply for it at the airport. No entry permit is needed.
