Extension on an S2 single entry visa

I have a single entry S2 type for 5 months with which I came to China (to visit my son who is working there), but now we want to visit Cambodia and come back. Is it possible to apply for an extension at the local PSB and make my single entry one double or multiple entry? Thanks.
