About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

I would like to ask you question regarding transit visa in Shanghai up to 72h.

Dear Team,

I am planning to travel via Shanghai August 2015. Will arrive in PVG 09:40am 7th August 2015 with Virgin Atlantic from London and planning to depart from PVG to Tokyo 09:00am 10th August 2015. This will give me 71h 20m transit however my worry is ticket to Shanghai is not issued on the same ticket as departure (departing with Japan Airline on confirm ticket).

Would you please be so kind to help me understand:
1. Am I allowed to use 72h transit in Shanghai if single arrival ticket is on separate ticket as departure? Departure ticket to Japan is confirmed.

Thank you so much for your kind help and support assisting me with planning trip.
Kind regards
Rafal

Rafal, it’s OK for you to use separate arrival and departure tickets. You qualify for the 72h free transit rule.
