About:China Consulate in Houston

Do I need a visa to enter Macao and mainland China for a day trip from Hong Kong?

I plan on leaving the US for HK for a short visit - total 5 days. I want to know if I can go to Macao and mainland from HK for a day trip. I understand based on my length of stay that I do not need one to go to HK because I am a US citizen with a US passport.

Kathleen, you do not need it for entering Macao but you need an L type one for mainland.

Can I get the L type in Hong Kong or mainland China when I am there or do I need to get it before I leave the U.S.?

To play it safe, you'd better apply from Chinese consulate in your country before you go.
