About:Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport

Transfer via Guangzhou, do I need to go through immigration and customs?

I hold a US passport going to australia via transit there with layover of 5 hrs. What is it that I hear we have to fill out a customs form upon arrival in china even though we are only doing transit. Please advise.

As I know, you don't need to go through the immigration for this transfer, but the customs may ask you to fill out a form indded.

And I read from the official website of CAN the international transit procedure is like this:
Flight arrival – inspection & quarantine – transfer procedure – waiting & boarding.
