Friendship through Internet

I'm a rat and I made a friend online, we share a lot of the same interest. I don't plan on meeting her for a few years (my choice). Should I be cautious? We're just friends nothing romantic.

Of course you should be cautious. After all it is an internet friend. It's easy for people to tell lies online, and you cannot see it through.
