fastestleast complicated way to reach forbidden city from terminal 3 beijing airport

Question

How long will it take for shuttle line no. 2 from airport to Xidan end station? And from Xidan walking to Tiananmen Square? Is this a faster way to get to Forbidden City versus taking the Airport Express to Tiananmen East/West Station? If I take a taxi from T3 airport to Forbidden City, how long will it take (travel time bet. 12:00 - 1:30 pm) and around how much would the fare be? I'm looking for the fastest and least complicated way to get to FC, as my flight arrives 11:20 am and I hope to spend my afternoon layover time there. (My connecting flight is still 2:00 am following day.)  By the way, can I use the transportation smart card in airport shuttle buses? Thank you so much.

Hi, it takes 70-80min from the airport to Xidan. By walking, it takes 30-40min from Xidan to Tiananmen Square. For a direct taxi ride, it takes around 40-50min and the charge is CNY110-120. As I know, the transportation smart card cannot be used on the shuttles, so you'd better prepare enough cash.

Thank you, Iris, for the quick reply. From your input, I guess taking a taxi is my best option. One follow-up question please, if you don't mind, is the taxi drop-off in the FC area close already to the entrance of FC or is it still considerable minutes of walk?

The taxi dropping-off site shall be around 5-10min walking distance to the Forbidden City. The taxi is not allowed to stop right at the entrance of FC.
