do i need a temporary resident permit , how can i book a hotel ?

How can i get a temporary resident permit if my visa is expired ? I am planning to go the nearest PSB in shanghai soon and pay the fine 10000 rmb.. will they ask me where am i staying now? how can i get a hotel if my entry is expired? where will i stay while waiting the processing of exit visa?

Marian, which type do you hold currently? When will it expire? Only S1, X1, Q1 and Z type holders can acquire the temporary resident permits within 30 days after they arrive. If you already overstayed, you'd better report to the local entry and exit management bureau as soon as you can. Then you may just pay the fine and acquire the exit visa to leave. If you keep overstaying for long, then you may be deported and won't be allowed to enter at least five years. Meanwhile, you will be fined CNY10000 or detained for 5 to 15 days.
