About:China Visa Application in USA

As a U.S. citizen currently abroad, can I still apply for a visa at a Chinese Consulate in the U.S.?

I'm currently out of the country and am not able to apply through the local Consulate here. Is is possible to mail my passport and application to a travel agent in the U.S. and apply through them?

Thanks!

Lee, as a general rule, you have to stay in the country where you submit the application for mainland China entry permit. Therefore, you can't apply for it from the US while you are abroad. However, if there is a Chinese embassy in the country you are currently in, you can apply for the entry permit from there.
