Traveling back to the USA with a group of 12: Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia to Beijing, China to SFO, USA

I am traveling back to the USA from Mongolia and we have a 28 hour layover in Beijing and want to stay the night in a hotel in Beijing. Do we qualify for the 72 hour free transit visa? What do we need to get the 72 hour transit?

If all of you hold US passports, then you all qualify for the 72 hrs free transit. To get the free transit, you should book a flight ticket to USA with confirmed date and seating in advance and prepare a valid passport.
