Korean Visa Requirements for students

Hello,do I need to add a bank statement to the documents I need to submit at the embassy to get a tourist type entry permit as a foreign student from Africa studying in Shandong?
And since I want to go for my tour in the first week of next month,when is it most appropriate to apply for it?
