Converting S2 to S1 visa for same sex married couple

My same sex married partner holds a Z type and has a residency permit for and is working in Beijing. I applied for and was granted an S2 10 year multiple entry one w/ a maximum stay of 90 days. We have decided that I should relocate from NYC to Beijing, but I assume that I would need to do a border run every 90 days. Have you seen same sex married couples from the U.S. granted the S1 type and year-long residency permit for Beijing? Any advice on how to best approach this situation?

Tim, it is a pity that your marriage is not recognized by Chinese laws at present, so I'm afraid you cannot convert the S2 type to S1 type. The best solution would be applying for a Z type and then getting the residency permit, just like your partner does, so that you can live together without frequent interruptions.

Tim, you may visit Beijing Entry and Exit Mangement Bureau first and ask if they can change your S2 into a Z type if you find an employer. If so, you needn't leave the mainland.

Yes, you can fly to Philippines and get back to activate your second entry. In fact, you can do this in HK instead of Philippines.

Antonio - thx for the clarification. If I am 'living' in Beijing on the S2 and can find an employer, if I understand correctly, I have to come back to the U.S. to apply? Also, on my border runs every 90 days, can I simply fly to The Philippines for the weekend and return to Beijing? Tim
