About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

2 possible itineraries: Which works?

Hi. Trying to go from Japan to Xi'an, and then from Xi'an to the United States.

Itinerary #1: Japan to Xi'an with quick change of planes in Hangzhou. Stay in Xi'an less than 72 hours, and then fly to the United States via change of planes in Seoul, Korea.

Itinerary #2: Japan to Xi'an with quick change of planes in Taipei. Stay in Xi'an less than 72 hours, and then fly to the United States via changes of planes in Seoul, Korea.

I wanted itinerary #1, but looks like that WON'T qualify for the free 72-hour visa, right? Would itinerary #2 qualify?

Thanks!

Yes, you are right, itinerary #1 does not qualify for the 72-hour free transit policy because you transit in two cities of China. Itinerary #2 is fine for using the policy.
