Hi, I'm currently working/living in Baku, Azerbaijan and have booked a direct flight for Beijing at 19:20 on the 20th of March, arriving in Beijing at 06:20am on the 21st. I've booked a hotel for two nights in Beijing and then have a return flight on the 24th at 01:00am Beijing time, arriving back in Azerbaijan at 05:00am. I've read a lot about visa free travel to Beijing when being there under 72 hours but i'm not 100% sure i meet the criteria. The local Chinese embassy wasn't sure and neither is Azerbaijan Airlines. Any help would be most appreciated!

Hello Dan, as you are flying from Azerbaijan to Beijing and then back to the country, you do not meet the criteria. To use the 72 hour free transit policy, you have to fly from Beijing to a third country. So I think you have to apply for an L type in advance at the Chinese embassy.
