About:How to Travel to China without a Visa

Transiting from port to airport. Do I need a visa?

I am an Australian and will be taking a cruise that ends in Shanghai port (Baoshan). I will then go to Shanghai airport to take flight out of China on the same day.

As long as you have valid air ticket in hands, you can enjoy 24 hours free transit policy. Therefore, you needn't apply in advance.

Thank you for your reply. After reading about the 24 hour free transit, it seems to apply to air passengers only, as it requires the person to stay within the airport area during transit. In my case I am arriving into China at a seaport, and I need to travel some distance to get to the airport to fly out. Can you confirm if the 24 hour free transit applies to sea AND air travels as in my case?

IW, this is what the entry and exit management law says. You are ok for 24 hours free transit.
