About:Chinese Marriage

Limited space and airport customs

My son, an American, is marrying a Chinese woman in China several months from now. I'm still confused about the gifts for the parents. I don't know how much to spend and do not know what food items etc. will be allowed through customs. Also, we have limited luggage space to bring things with us.
Thank you.

Just take it easy. As far as I think, the best gifts for the groom’s parents would be tea, alcoholic drink (this is limited for 2 bottles in the customs), or watch. Or you can just ask the bridegroom about her advise.

Never ever give watches or clocks to Chinese people as they mean funeral in mandarin! These are seen as bad luck and it can be offensive especially to the traditional Chinese.
