I am going to visit a potential supplier to determine if their capabilities meet our needs.  Is an F type needed?

Gill, based on your situation, I think it is more suitable to apply for an M type. Prepare the application documents ( valid passport, a photocopy of the passport, application form, a recently taken color bare-headed photo, and an invitation letter from the supplier) in advance, and then go to the CVASC office to submit your application.
