About:Guangzhou East Railway Station

Journey from Hong Kong to Shanghai.

Hello, We are planning to travel by fast train from Hong Kong to Shanghai. I've looked on various web-sites and find it a bit confusing. Can you provide details of the journey including train times and length of journeys? Where will we need to pass through immigration and custom formalities? We are coming from Australia and will be in Hong Kong for 3 nights.

I've seen a rail service from Hong Kong to Shanghai via Guangzhou. We can go from Hong Kong to Guangzhou East and then a fast ride from Guangzhou South station to Shanghai. I'm not sure the best way to get from East station to South station to connect. There is a subway in Guangzhou but I don't know how long that would take. This is the bit I'm trying to sort out. Also I'm not sure how long the formalities from Hong Kong to China would take. We need to take this into account when booking the ride. Thanks.

From the East station to South, you can take the subway Line 1 first to Gongyuanqian station and then change to Line 2 and get off at Guangzhou South station. The trip would be about 1 hour. Also, to have enough time for the ticket collection, you'd better arrive about 90min in advance. Also, at least 30min for immigration and custom formalities would be better.
