About:

From Hangzhou to Sanqinshan

We'll be coming from Hangzhou, I think taking train to Shangrao is easiest - or is there a direct bus?
In Shangrao, where do buses leave for the mountain (how far from railway station), and how often?
Where in or near the mount is a good place to stay handy to the gondolas?
We could spend 2 days in the park - is east or south access recommended?

I’d like to suggest you take train from Hangzhou to Yushan. There are more than 20 high speed trains running between Hangzhou East and Yushan South. After arrival, you can take a taxi to Yushan Bus Station. There you can take bus to reach the mountain. Buses are scheduled from 06:30 to 15:00 every 40min. And you are suggested to stay in the south side of the mountain.

For in the south, there are more hotels available, you can easily find one.
And the altitude is a bit higher than the East, so it is cooler and fresher than east.
In fact, South cable car and east cable car, taking them can see the same scenic spots, just from different perspective. And the order of sightseeing is a bit different. If you want a more thrilling experience, take the south cable car.

Could you tell me that if I arrive to Yushan South railway station after 18:00 there are still buses to the mountain, south side where the hotels are?

I'm afraid not. If you arrive after 18:00, you have no choice but to take a taxi or hire a private car to the mountain. They may charge CNY120-150.
