About:Hong Kong Visa Application

According to my study abroad advisor, I have to apply for a visa to visit/study abroad in hong kong.

Hi,
I am a Nepali citizen, but I currently live in the U.S. I am a permanent resident of the U.S. and a student in one of the private universities here in the U.S. do I have to apply even though I am a Nepali citizen? I have all the required documents from the university to prove that my stay is for study abroad purpose only, but I am just not sure if i have to apply one. And if I do then what kind of visa do I apply for? Also, my study abroad begins at the end of may and I was thinking of visiting Hong kong 15 days before it begins. With that said, do I still have to apply for a X type because I am visiting it 15 days before my program (study) begins ?
Please reply back asap ! Thanks in advance ...

Nori, Nepalis need to apply visas for HK, according to HK Immigration Department. You can choose to apply from Chinese embassy or the deparment directly. If you apply from the Chinese embassy or consulate in US, you may wait four or six weeks because your application might be sent to HK for approval.

In your case, I think you'd better apply for the study type. If you apply for a visior type for 15 days visit in HK, I am afraid that you may not have enough time to apply for the study type. Usually, a person can't hold two at the same time. However, you may ask HK Immigration Department whether you can apply for the study type in HK before your L type expires. If they say Yes, you can apply for a visitor type to have a trip there before your study begins.
