Going to China to meet boyfriends family.

I'm going to China this summer for two months to meet my boyfriends family and so he can renew his visa to continue to go to college here in Washington. Only my boyfriend and his half-brother speak English. I will be staying with his mother and I don't know if there's a certain way I should act around her or what to say and what not to say. Anything helps. Thanks

Hailey, please don't be nervous. I assume that she can't speak English, right? Then it's difficult for you to communicate with her without an interpreter. You should ask help from your boyfriend. He can tell what kind of person his mom is and what she likes and dislikes. For example, if she is a very traditional Chinese, she must like reserved girls who are very polite. Such a girl doesn't speak loudly. She doesn't wear sexy clothes or heavy make-up.

By the way, you may prepare a gift for her. Your BF knows clearly what she likes. Just buy something she likes. And you may learn some basic Chinese expressions. When you meet her, you can say Nin Hao. If she cooks some dishes, you may praise her cooking skills in Chinese "Nin Zuo De Cai Zhen Bang".
