I plan on taking 7:40 AM flight from Beijing to Xian on 9th April arriving there at 9:35 AM. Would it be possible to visit museum the same day and return to a hotel in Xian city in the evening? I need to fly from Xian to Osaka the next day.

Well, the distance from the city center to the museum is about 25.2 mi. One afternoon maybe a little hurried. But it would be fine if you go and come back by taxi (buses will stop operation at about 19:30). Just be quick.
