HJ, the orginal idea was brought up by Sun Yat-sen in 1918. After PRC was founded, Gezhouba was approved to be built in 1970. This dam was actually regared as a test and preparation for bulding the Three Gorges Dam. On April 3, 1992, the authorities approved to build the Three Gorges Dam. On Dec. 14, 1994, the construction of the dam started officially.4
