Tourist type entry permit for China from Japan

I am living and working (internship) in Japan and have a 1 year VISA for Japan (valid until 09/2015). In China, I would like to meet the family of my girlfriend during a short tourist stay (about 1 week). Do I have to apply through a travel agency or is there an easier way? I come from Germany, 23 years old and still enrolled at university for studies.

Hi Alex! You don't need to apply through a travel ageny. You can just go to the consulate or embassy which has jurisdicton over your residence and submit the application for an L type. The required applcation documents are your passport and its photocopy, a filled application form glued with your recent photo, the original and photocopy of your residence card in Japan, and an invitation letter from your girlfriend's family.
