According to what I know, foreigners can usually extend their visas two times at most. However, they are just allowed to extend once after new entry and exit management law was put into use. Anyway, you can confirm this at local entry and exit management bureau. Usually you need to extend it at least 7 days before your current one expires. The duration of stay is usually no longer than your current duration of stay.
