We are going to visit my mother who has a working visa and we would like to get married while there. Would it be possible even though we don't have resident permits to get married? We both have tourist types and have traveled quite frequently there.

You can get married in China, as long as you hold valid passport and the single status certificate issued by the embassy of your country, and proofs showing your country recognize the marriage registered out of your country.
