About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit FAQ

What happens if stay longer than 72 hours in Shanghai?

I am french and american so didn't need a transit visa or any special documentation to stay in shanghai for 72 hours as i have a flight booked to hong kong. I want to stay in shanghai for a whole week and not go to hong kong. What happens if i stay the whole 7 days? Thanks for the help!!!

If you are caught by the police during the overstaying period, you will be imposed with a fine and sent back. If the situation is serious, you may be rejetced to enter China again.
