Need to have hotel names on form?

I'm going to China as a tourist in May. Because I'm traveling elsewhere beofre this time (and need my passport in March and April), I need to apply for a visa sooner, rather than later. However, I do not have any hotel reservations yet. Is it required to have all hotel reservations confirmed, or can one simply put down the cities (Shanhai, Beijing, Xian) where I'll be going? Is that good enough

Just putting down the cities is far from enough for the application. Furthermore, the L type is valid usually for three months, so you'd better not apply for it too early. Maybe you can submit the application during your travel in other places.
